Gallery and News 2016-2017

A look at some of the things that happen at the Tower, both in front and behind the scenes.

Echoes Of The Past 2016

    Visit March 2017

We had a visit from Mr Powell from the USA, who's father flew with 410 sqdn 94th BG from mid 1943.  He turned up on the off chance of getting a photo of the tower, and ended up with a full tour by Cliff Fullam (left).

This is the main reason we do what we do, to give veterans / veterans families and visitors an insight into the lives of the servicemen who operated from here during those dark days of WW2.

    Metal Detecting March 2017

Bottom half of canteen used for pistol practice by an airman or ground crew!  This, and many more objects were found during recent metal detecting days.

    Tower Works April 2017

Work was progressing around the site in preparation for the season start.  Trench digging for the new security system, many thanks to Graham, Andrew, Paul and Luke for their hard work. Wendy was supervisor and chief tea maker!

Work in progress, plenty of blood, sweat and tea!

    Opening Day April 2017

      Bikers April 2017

We had a visit from the Bedfordshire contingent of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, accompanied by members from Suffolk, Cambs and Norfolk.  All in all there were 20 bikes and a good time was had by all, with plenty of tea and cake consumed in the tea room! They were all very impressed by the Museum and many have said they will be returning again.

The Riders Branch raise money 365 days a year for the Poppy Appeal and over their 12 year history have raised in excess of £1.000.000 for this very worthy cause.  The ride out to the Tower this time was for fun though.

Group Visit to Tower May, 2017

A group visited the Tower in May, 2017.  Thanks to  Michael Faley for the photo. Clifford Fullam and Clifford Hall were on hand to show these wonderful guests around.

      First Promotion Show, May 2017

First promotion show at the Aldreth Village Fete.  It was a lovely day, meeting some interesting people.  Lots of interest in the tower.

      Echoes Of The Past 2017

      6th August 2017

Our annual "Echoes Of The Past" event took place on Sunday 6th of August.  Once again, it was a fantastic day, and the crowds were out in force.
From the British Legion Parade to the stalls, from the motorbikes to the mock air raid on the tower, there was something for everyone, young and old.

The Tower team had their own HQ for the day, selling RCTAM gifts.

The team were also ready with the tea and coffee!

      Echoes 2017 Slide Show

        No.3 Commando - Moonlight Raiders

No.3 Commando - Moonlight Raiders used the tower on the 8th of October, 2017, for a group training event.

        RAF Honington Team

We had a work party at the Tower, supplied by the Royal Air Force Regiment from RAF Honington.  48 very willing hands turned out in the cold weather to clean, paint, tidy, build, dig around the site.  The RTA Committee are eternally grateful for their help.  We would have taken weeks to do what the lads accomplished in five hours!

        December Departure 2017

We had a very successful "December Departure", despite the winter weather. Many thanks to Terry Clements, the Mayor of Bury St Edmunds, the children from the Sybil Andrews Academy and the 40 attendees for their enthusiasm and effort in braving the atrocious conditions to remember the occasion.
Also many thanks to Cliff Hall and Linda Scoles for two very entertaining talks.

        School Talk

Clifford Fullam, from the RTC commitee, was the guest speaker at the Sybil Andrew Acadamy assembly. Clifford shared an introduction to the history of the old USAAF airfield on which Sybil Andrews Academy is built and also showed students some artefacts that are on dispaly at the museum.
